What are Civil Rights?

Civil Rights are a person’s rights to political freedom, social freedom, economic equality, and even equality in general.

It was supported by the 14th amendment, stating that all states will provide equal protection to everyone. Civil Rights can be for any race, but in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950’s was a movement for the African Americans.

Any person can start a Civil Rights Movement, whether it is for your religion, gender, race, sexual orientation, and so on.
One of the main leaders of the Civil Rights Movement was Martin Luther King Jr., through his speeches and many violent free protests about desegregating and racial discrimination.

Another great influence was Rosa Parks, an elderly African American woman who would not give up her seat to a white man on a bus. This action leads to the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955, a movement to protest segregation on public buses.

Many other events such as the Freedom Rides of 1961, where college students would protest segregation on interstate buses.
The March on Washington of 1963 was an event in which about 250,000 blacks and whites gathered together to protest segregation were inspired by Rosa Parks' actions.
