Poetry

During this time, more African American poets began to rise to fame as they wrote about the Civil Rights Movement. This is because they wanted to speak up and poetry was a great way to get people to listen to their words.

One such poet was Maya Angelou, who had been writing since 1929. I will include several links to some poetry written during this time.

Passing Time

Poems by Chude Pam Allen

Poems by Margaret Block

Poems written during this era were all in outrage. These people wanted change, and they were willing to fight for it as you can see from the biting words of this poetry. It was inspiring by readers to see that people were willing to fight for what they believed in.
